Hair Clippers – The Complete Guide

2010 April 13

If you regularly have your hair clipped short at a barbers or hair salon, not only are you probably spending a considerable amount of money, but also a lot of your time. A trip to the salon every other week can mean hundreds of dollars and many hours wasted each year, so why not invest in a decent pair of hair clippers and cut your own hair! You’ll save both money and time, and you may be surprised just how quick and easy it is.

After going through several sets of clippers I eventually invested in a quality set from Wahl and wished I had done my research a little better in the beginning instead of buying the first set I found. Hopefully after reading this article you won’t make the same mistake I did.

So let’s look at some of the things you should be looking for when shopping for a set of clippers:

Wet and dry use. Clippers can normally only be used on dry hair, but some of the modern clippers can also be used on wet hair, and a few of the cordless sets can even be used in the shower making them really versatile.

Different hair textures. A good quality set of clippers will cut through thick hair just as easily as fine hair. It all depends on the power of the motor, and the quality of the blade so look for a high quality set from a reputable brand name.

Quality motor. A good quality motor not only gives an accurate cut without jamming or pulling, but will also tend to be quiet and reasonably vibration free.

Attachments. Most clippers will come with a range of guards, brushes, oil and more. If you want to be able to make different cuts you’ll need a range of guards, but if you always have a “balder” but you don’t need to worry!

Cordless. For general use a mains powered, corded clipper is just fine but if you like to use your clippers in the garden to save sweeping up, or if you want to take them on vacation then a rechargeable set is an added bonus!
