My Dog Gets Motion Sick – Help!

There are very few things worse than getting your pup in the car for a trip to the dog park, only to have the biscuits you gave him right before regurgitated all over your upholstery.

So, motion sickness is a very real problem, particularly in puppies, and it can make car rides with your pooch absolutely miserable. For dog owners who have planned on taking their pets with them everywhere, motion sickness can ruin that idea very quickly.

Fortunately, there are many easy, natural remedies to help quell motion sickness in your dog so you will both enjoy car rides much more.

First things first: you can get a special dog seat or a dog seatbelt. Both items help to position your dog in such a way that he is facing forward, which is a good starting point.

While your pet is facing forward, crack the windows in your vehicle a few inches. This helps equalize the pressure inside the vehicle with the outside of the vehicle.

Changes in pressure can help contribute to a dog’s motion sickness. By evening out the pressure, you are helping to eliminate additional feelings of nausea in your pet.

Also, don’t feed your dog a big meal prior to riding in the car. If his stomach is mostly empty, there will be less to come back up should your dog become ill on the car ride.

However, if all these steps still leave your dog feeling terribly motion sick, you might want to go and see your vet. Describe your situation and have him prescribe over the counter dog motion sickness medication if need be.

If it is any consolation, it is likely that your dog will grow out of his motion sickness issue. However, until then, make sure to do everything in your power to make him as comfortable as possible. It will make a big difference to him, and he will know that he is much loved by you!
