You love your little furry four-legged family member who is full of beans no matter what. Too many times a new puppy can upset the balance in your household. For the sake of the puppy’s and family’s happiness it is a good idea to start training you dog as soon as possible. Having the right approach, coupled with the right knowledge will help you to make sure that your furry little family member is well behaved. The next four tips are what many of the professional swear by.

Be The Pack Leader

All dogs are pack animals that will only follow the commands of their alpha male. There is only ever one alpha male in the pack or else the pack would descend into chaos. To help your dog find his place within the family you need to become the pack leader. You need to show your dog that you are in charge by taking him for walks when you get home and helping him to complete obedience training. Another way to show your dog who is the boss is by controlling when and how much your dog is allowed to eat. When your dog learns that you feed him twice a day it reinforces the thought that you are the top dog.

Don’t Change

If your dog doesn’t learn a command experts say that it isn’t his fault, professionals agree that in most cases it’s the owner that is at fault when a dog doesn’t understand what you want him to do. Everything in the dog world is either black or white where humans see a whole swathe of grays. People know that “Come” and “C’mon” have become synonymous, dogs on the other hand don’t know that they mean the same thing so saying “C’mon” in place of “Come” will only succeed in confusing the dog. To limit the confusion to a bare minimum it is vital that you use the same tone of voice and the same words when teaching your dog a new command.

Respect Is The Key To A Great Partnership Between You And Your Dog.

Mutual respect must be established between you and your dog for your to have a lasting, loving relationship. It’s not hard to build a bond based on mutual respects you for your position as the alpha male you must respects all of his needs. Respect is not won out of fear, as when animals get scared they strike out and it is not found at the bottom of a pack of doggy treats. The only reward you will get if you treat him too much or are too stern is very erratic behavior, a bond of respect comes from praising him and correcting him properly.

It Is All In The Timing

Time plays an important part in every aspect of your dogs training. You can teach an old dog new tricks, but it is easier to teach a puppy that haven’t develop the habits yet. Trying to train your pet over a long training session can be a mistake. Most professionals suggest that you should reduce the time spent training your dog to around 15 minutes per training session to help increase the chances that your dog will learn because many dogs have the same length attention span as children. Timing also plays a part in asserting your status of alpha male. In the wild the alpha male always eats first, so feeding him after you’ve finished your meal is great way to reinforce the message that you are the pack leader.

Your dog needs to be trained but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring for you. No matter where you live you should try and find a trainer that both you and your furry companion can work with so that it never becomes a chore to train your dog.
